Ohio to Nashville and Memphis

We know its been a while since we posted, I can take the blame for that as I have had what Alison diagnosed as mild food poisoning, combined with a few big days of driving and then a few locations with no internet.  So I will pick up where we left off, which is leaving Ohio and driving to Nashville.  Nothing remarkable happened on the drive, except we saw a huge storm in the distance which didn’t hit where we were.  We arrived at the campground, and it was a Jellystone campground, with a Yogi Bear theme.  We checked in and set up for the night, and had dinner.  The campground had a lot of activities for the next few days as it was the school holidays.  We looked at the tours that were offered and decided to do a night time tour of Nashville which included dinner, leaving at 5 in the afternoon and getting back at around 10. Through the day we were going to go to Oprey Outlet Mall, until we found out that they had been damaged in a flood earlier in the year and wont be opened again until the end of the year.  Kade and I slept in, and mum and Kylie went to watch the flag raising with Boo Boo.  They then had coffee on the front porch and went for a walk around the camp ground.  When Kade and I got up at 10, we all went to the pool for a swim and a game of water volleyball.  It was really hot, and beautiful weather.  We went for a hey ride (when you see someone you shout out HEY) and had another swim.  We had lunch with Yogi Bear (pizza) and then Kylie and Kade tie-dyed shirts.  We got ready to go out on the tour and were picked up as scheduled.  The tour included dinner at a local restaurant where we had a sampler plate of ribs, chicken, pork, baked beans, coleslaw and a pancake like thing.  After dinner we continued the tour, which took us past the Ryman theater, this is where the Grand Ole Oprey was first held, for those of you who don’t know what the Grand Ole Oprey is it’s a radio show that showcases all sorts of musicians and artists. For example Elvis Preseley, Dolly Parton and ZZ Topp just to name a few.  The Grand Ole Oprey is currently being held at the Ryman Theatre due to the flood ruining the current place it where it was being held.  We also went past some famous singers houses, and there was a huge storm as we were going though, with trees knocked down and water flooding the road.  I managed to get a picture of an angel statue at the exact time a lightening bolt came down.  The pic looks pretty cool
We ended with a bit of time in downtown Nashville, listening to some good music and some not so good. The next day we packed up and drove to Memphis, set up, cooked dinner as per normal and decided that we would to go to Graceland though the day and then do an afternoon tour though Memphis that night.  You were able to tour though the bottom part of Elvis’ house, where he entertained and his parents room, his yard and pool, the awards room and the racquetball court.  We were also able to see his planes and cars.  It was an impressive place and it was great to learn about his history and life even though I’m not a huge Elvis fan.  The tour we did was OK, the company seemed to be very disorganised, having their drivers drive back and forward to pick up passengers and sending them to the wrong hotels.  The tour started 20 minutes late by the time everyone was picked up.  The tour itself could have been really good, but the driver was new and didn’t know the history very well and the bus didn’t have a microphone.  The tour allowed you to get off at each site for around 5 – 10 minutes to get pictures etc.  We stopped at the hotel where Martin Luther King (is there a doctor in there as well?) was killed, and saw the marching of the ducks at an expensive hotel where they have ducks that swim in the hotel lobby fountain and each day at 5 they walk to the elevator and go to their room.  We got dropped off back at the campground at around 7, cooked dinner and got ready for 3 big days of travel as we were heading 1500 miles to Las Vegas.
