Travelling along good ole Route 66

Day one of our long drive took us from Memphis, TN, through Arkansas to Oklahoma. We made the drive with a stop at a shopping center and a Walmart, and stayed at a campground in Oklahoma. The campground was on the old Route 66, which we followed for the next two days until we turned off to Las Vegas. We took off around 8 the next morning, and headed though Oklahoma and Texas to New Mexico. Along the way we stopped at a few Roadside Americana sites, such as the leaning water tower, a 200 foot (19 stories) high cross. This was a religious site which had other statues dedicated to the 12 stations of Jesus and the like, it was very well done and quite a site to see even if you are not religious. And of course the most awesomest site of all, the Cadillac graveyard. The graveyard was started as an art piece showing the history of the makes of the Cadillacs though the years. It is tradition to go and graffiti the cars with spray paint. We didn’t have any spray paint but we did have a paint pen so we used that to write on the cars to leave our marks. We arrived at our campground in New Mexico around 7pm. The campground was situated near where a few volcanoes had gone off years and years ago, there were old lava rocks around. We went for a walk near the campsite though some lava rocks and then cooked dinner. The next day we went to an old lava flow tunnel which Kade walked through and then to a National Park, where we did a 45 minute walk around looking at carvings that had been there for hundreds of years. We ended our day by arriving into Las Vegas, where the temperature was a nice 100 degrees (close to 40 Celsius).
